1/2 -- 2-Barreling Gutshot + Over-Card

Villain is type to defend Ax+,42s+,22+,J9o+ preflop. He will x/c flops w/ bottom pair and has shown ability to fold marginal TP hands to two-barrels. I figure my gutshot+over equity makes my bet OTT +EV, but not sure. Was gonna bet big on an A river, if I hit my J, or block bet/fold a K. We're about 250BB deep. Thanks.

Hero ($500): Kc Th

EP3 calls $2, fold x 2, Hero raises $14, fold x 2, Villain (SB) calls $14, EP3 folds

Flop ($32): Qh 9h 4d

Villain checks, Hero bets $26, Villain calls

Turn ($84): 5c

Villain checks, Hero bets $56, Villain calls

River ($196): 2s

Villain checks, Hero checks

How aggressive is this villain preflop? Is he the type that will 3bet AQ/KQ/99 from SB? Or is he flatting all of these preflop? And how aggressively does he push draws?

In a vacuum, I think if we bet turn this small we have to barrel river almost 100% since we don't maximize fold equity OTT. Something like $125 should be good. His range looks like a QJ/QT type of hand just holding on, and if he has any clue he'll think that those aren't good hands to call a big river bet with because they block some of our most likely bluffs. There is also something to be said for not accidentally losing to A7hh.

He's pretty passive. Typical Loose Pre-Flop/Flop & tightens up on Turns, though I really didn't know his calling tendencies on a blank river w/ Qx -- it all bricked which might incline them toward a call, which is why I felt an A was the only profitable bluff card.

I guess I estimated he has like 40-50 draws, (only 6-10 have an A), and I around 50 Qx, but couldn't properly gauge my potential FE vs Qx, so just hoped to showdown vs QJ, small hearts, etc.

    Thanks for feedback.

5x is a bad card to barrel IMO, most 1/2 loose/passive players are never folding TP on a draw-heavy flop. I just take the free card and bink.

FWIW I'd check back AT OTF and delayed c-bet turn. I like your flop bet tho - we can get folds from A-high, etc.

I think turn barrel has value against someone I've seen overfold the turn recently w/ a marginal pair (not vs me), and I make them fold KJ, JT, 4x, some 9x, some FD. Could be wrong though.

River I just didn't know how clingy he was w/ Qx, and I beat many of his draws at SD I figured.

I'm not trying to barrel some $1/2 player off top pair without significant equity. They didn't come to the casino to fold!

I do think your thinking is more valid in bigger, tougher games. I think it's too optimistic in this spot.

He doesn't have enough draws to triple barrel the river. Xing will beat most of his range. Axhh and KhJh are 2 draws you don't beat. Your could bluff bet like $30 and make those hands fold or some small amount. I'd lean on not getting it the fish Insta called flip and turn. Turn is a large bet for him. A draw should hesitate to call. So if he snaps it drops SDs in his range down
