Will I benefit from a Top Section Subscription?

kaboojie Posts: 209Subscriber
This question is more for Top Section subscribers or those who were subscribers.

Because my main job is seasonal work, I have a lot of time to devote to poker. Since November, I have been playing 2/5 pretty regularly. It's a relatively small sample of 500 hours, but I am having success. I am now at a point where I would like to start taking shots at my casino's 5/10 1500 cap game. My question is am I at a point where a Top Section subscription would help me or are the topics discussed a little too advanced for me at this point? I don't mind paying the premium if it's going to help, but I'd like to get some feedback from past or present Top Section subscribers.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you play at? Yes I would definitely sub to Top Section if you are moving up to play 5/10 $1500 cap. A lot of David Chan’s podcast directly correlate to $5/10 $1500 cap games. That is his bread and butter game at his home casino.

    ^^
Thanks for your response. I play in Ontario, Canada so none of the podcasts or videos will be from the card room I play in. That said, it sounds like David Chan's podcast would help.

Conlan and I do the Top Section podcast now, so over the last 6 months the show is a lot about "optimal" play and using solvers. Maybe @thehammah can chime in about how worth it is or what games it is applicable for.

For me it's been the difference between being a 4bb/hr winner and a 10/bb hr winner.. There was a zero percent chance I would have figured this stuff out myself and so now I just listen and the be a copy cat..

my biggest mistake was hounding Squish til he joined.. been regretting him skimming off the fish monies at hustler ever since... he he

Top Section is mostly about "optimal play". Conlan and I discuss a lot of solver solutions so it is applicable to tough 5-10+ tables in gametime but almost everyone can benefit from the material that is presented. We discuss a lot of bet sizing (both small and large), range considerations, blockers, optimal decisions and exploits.

No one could have figured this stuff out on their own. Its the solvers (computers) that have changed the high level games. But when other players are using these tools you can definitely be at a disadvantage if you don't understand what they are doing.
