I was in Portland Oregon yesterday and today for a meeting with a potential new client. After my meeting was over I, I had about 4 hours before I had to get to the airport for my flight back to LA. I asked around on twitter and @apokerplayer
who lives there recommended Aces club. This was not like an LA or vegas casino but more like you would think a card club would look like.
The interesting thing about cash games in Portland are they are illegal. So the way the card clubs get around this is they have you buy into a cash tourney played with tourney chips and you cash out when the tourney is over in two hours.. You can rebuy but you have to stay the whole two hours.
So in my first session I played 1/2 NL and bought in for 200.. Played a few hands pretty well.. one hand rather badly but still won 130 bucks.. My second session I played much better and also cash 140 bucks.
The play there was pretty bad.. so many players were checking and as I discovered the hard way.. no one bet the river as a bluff except one guy. EVERYONE else would only bet with nuts or near nuts.. I called off 50 bucks on a polarized bet against preflop raiser when a flush came in because I thought he couldnt have the flush he would have bet it on the flop.. NOPE.. he checked and just check called the turn and bet 50 when he got there.. booo.. I am warped by more aggressive LA games..
that said if you get a chance to be up in the area I think anyone on this forum would be able to do at least as good as I did in 4 hours.. Morongo STILL has the No 1 spot for worst players ever ...
