New to Crush Live Poker?

collusion/softplay can we do anything about this?

this came up last night in a small tournament I played, kinda bugged me

5 players remain, 3 get paid
UTG and BB are partners (romantically involved)

Shortstack shoves UTG 9bb
fold to BB (30bb) who says "fold"
UTG says "damn I had JJ"
BB throws her hand into the much face up QQ and says "didn't want to bust you"

I didn't think it was too cool and said as much but nothing we can really do right? To make matters worse I proceeded to lose 2 back to back flips against the shorty and went from 2nd in chips to eventually bubbling while both partners cashed...

    and said as much
To whom? What exactly did you say? What was the response?

I'd be pushing for a minimum ten-minute penalty, then play really fast.

I said to the table, "that feels a lot like collusion to me"
BB says " what I'm allowed to fold"

I look at dealer to see if hes going to say anything and he says "do you want me to ask for a ruling?"

I decided in the moment to kind of let it go and just said "its ok", then to the players in question "you can't do that shit its not fair to us"

I play in a pretty small player pool so I've played with both of these individuals before and am friendly with them, have noticed other instances when at same table with them that I suspected they may have been playing each other soft, but this is the most blatant instance by far. I will be keeping an eye on them now for sure.

I was just curious what action others might have taken in this situation. I guess they need to be penalized to discourage further play like this

    It all really depends.

What's really bothering you here? Is this about money? Or is it about rules?

What's your capacity for being an ass hole?

How much do you care about being perceived as the rules nazi/hall monitor type?

If this was a place that I'd play infrequently, and I'm unlikely to encounter these folks again, then I'd do what you did. I'd be meaner about it. But ultimately I'd just give them an earful letting them know that their nonsense won't be tolerated.

If this was a place I play regularly, and they play regularly, especially if it's a small place, then I'm going to the mattresses on this. Get the floorperson. Make a ruling. enforce penalties. Make sure as many people as possible know what happened here. Make sure everyone in earshot will forever be suspicious when these two share a table.

I am kind of stuck in the middle between not wanting to be too big of an asshole and wanting the game to be fair play for all. In the future if anything like this happens again I will seek a ruling weather it goes my way or not at least it raises awareness of the situation.

Small MTTs, small player pools, this stuff comes up all the time. Since we are now after the fact, it's worth approaching the floor who usually oversees the tourney and telling them the situation, asking what they can do about it. Cuz you may hear back, "There's nothing we can do," meaning they don't want to deal with it, or you (less likely) hear that other players have mntioned it and the floor will address it with them.

Whatever we think can be done doesn't really matter if there isn't a pit boss willing to do it. But I think you'll have more luck addressing it when not in the moment, and not when the floor is trying to juggle finishing the MTT, dealing w cash games, etc.

directly ask the BB to also always fold her QQ to your 9 BB AI when she has you covered. I have done this in the past to get the point across.

if its a small room, definitely start discussing this with the floor, this shit shouldnt be tolerated.

FWIW, I have played with my wife a few times, and I always announce to the table we are married and that we NEVER soft play each other.

Once I played a tournament with my wife and we got down to the final two.

    I refused to chop.

Four years later, we got divorced.

    You do the math.

Generally it wouldn’t really bother me.

It’s a small stakes tourney. Most ppl there to have fun. If they’re pretty nice n fair people. I just let it slide. It’s not like they are breaking any rules.

Small MTT there isn't anything management is going to do about it. So you are fucked.

So don't rock the boat with the small MTTs vs bad players.

Yeah I mean I get it. This is a tournament where spots are only paid based on the elimination of other players, and one player essentially refused to eliminate another. In a real sense that costs you money, moreso than say in a cash game if the same action had taken place. At first I didn't think this was a deal, but now I think I would approach the floor.

Also just to add, I would NOT make a scene out of it. It is very, very unlikely the BB was thinking anything beyond "I want to be a nice person and not knock out my boyfriend."

When we assume the worst intentions in others, the worst comes out in ourselves.

A player told me once he rocked the boat. The casino called the cops on him and he was in the right. He argued his position but what he didn't know is that the player in question spent a lot of money at the casino so it's a choice of an annoying customer that is a money machine for the casino or some punk from California they will never see again.

At my casino they have this douche fuck who angle shoots and takes chips off the table. Still not banned even though everyone doesn't like him. He brings in money. I just watch his ass carefully in a pot and call out before anything serious happens.
