New to Crush Live Poker?

Poker trip to LA:

I know this isn't poker strategy, but I feel this might be the best place to get info. The trip is in March with a few poker friends. We will be in LA March 8th, 9th and 10th. Then drive to Vegas for a few days. (how long does this take?) Purpose of trip is poker and have fun. But we want to hit up the bike and commerce. I am going to try to play live at the bike on Friday.

Questions: 1. hotels: where should we stay and not stay? I would like to go under 150. Max 200. If I can 90-120 range. if that helps. I was looking I saw quality inn and suites montebello. good? We will rent a car so distance isn't that big of a deal, but I don't want to be too far out. So, the bike doesn't have hotels? how is commerce?

2. where would people recommend playing? one friend and I play 2-5 5-5 5-10 games and another friend 1-2 1-3 all nl holdem.

3. Places to go visit: bars, food, site seeing etc. We will be playing cards, but I do want to see the city. We might be going to a lakers game. not sure.

thanks for the advice.

if your plan is to play commerce and the bike there is a crown plaza attached to the commerce. you will need a car though but I figure you will be getting one. other than staying close to the casinos there are some nice hotels near the beach but might be a bit more expensive. Dont dtay at lax. the area isnt that nice and there isnt anything to do there.

  • Yes we will have a car, and thanks for the advice. do you know if this hotel: quality inn and suites montebello is in a ok spot or good place to go? Does commerce do any poker deals?

All I know about montebello is it has the best dim sum restaurant in LA. lol. There are a lot of things to do in the west hollywood, santa monica, hermosa beach ( of course my favorite ). and places like universal city, etc...

many of these places might have lower cost hotels.

  • Staying at Commerce really is your best bet. I think that the rooms range from $99-$139 depending on the dates. It is going to be difficult to get a room during the LAPC but there is also a pretty nice Double Tree a two minute drive away. If the primary purpose of the trip is poker than this is the place to be. Its just an ordinary hotel but my out of town friends say that that there is nothing like putting in two 5-7 hour sessions day. You don't want to be a visitor and have to commute to the casino through traffic. You can then do things from there with your car during the day like go to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc.

I didnt know about the Double Tree.. Yum cookies when you check in! This is certainly your best bet.. Stay close to the casinos as your base and then venture out for side trips ..

Partial list of stuff to do in LA:
    The Beach
    Universal Studios and Citywalk
    Hollywood blvd
    The Grove
    Rodeo Drive (Beverly Hills)
Santa Monica Pier and 3rd street promenade

Mann's Chinese Theater / Walk of Fame
    Griffith Observatory
    Sunset Strip

I would second not staying in Montebello, and recommending staying at the Commerce. The Bike is only a few miles from there.

Assuming you don't leave LA at rush hour to go to Vegas, you can get there in 3.5-ish hours. Btw- rush hour starts at 2:30pm and goes til like 8pm on the major freeways.

How could I forget! the shuttle Endeavour! california science center. Its free to go and best times are mid to late afternoon during the weekdays. I volunteer there and have found it so inspirational!
