2019 $5-$5 Challenge

BartBart Posts: 5,821AdministratorLeadPro
So in this thread I will be posting weekly updates to my $5-$5 challenge. My goal is t play at least 50 hours of 5-5 a month at least through the WSOP, and maybe after. I assume that this will be mostly at the Bicycle Casino and sometimes Hustler as those are the places with the $1k caps in LA. Please not that a lot of my sessions are going to be short, which is not necessarily the best way to approach 5/5, but I don't have a choice. But what that means is that session winrate is really going to be irrelevant. I wish I could find an app that graphed winnings across hours not sessions, but my Run Good poker app does not. Throughout the challenge I will be posting some 5-5 hands in NLHE strat here on the forums. Here are a couple so far:

http://www.crushlivepoker.com/forums/discussion/14179/5-5-thin-as-a-razor-multiway#latest

Through 30 hours I am up just over $2000, although I did get into an $1800 75/25 (set vs nut flush draw) and lost.

Actually @ddz let me know that I can graph my RunGood app by hours.. so that is what we will be seeing from me.

Bart - do you like the RunGood app? I found out about it recently, but the reviews looked like there may be a lot of fake reviews/too good to be true. I want to dump my Excel spreadsheet for an app.

For Android I think it's the best it even has a hand re-player. I still use both excel and app :D Too bad they don't have it for iOS

I see it now. The poker bankroll tracker looks cool too. $10/yr. Has cool replayer and can store actual hands in player notes.

So I cheated a little bit. Posted around 4PM yesterday my results through first 56 hours until I realized I was in the middle of a super session so deleted the post to include the current session.

Ended up being large but not crazy big. And that session is reflected in the results here.

Probably shooting for 10-15 hours of 5/5 per week. Bart

I use poker bankroll tracker, and this is one of the suggestions I sent them. As a rec player my sessions are small, and wanted to track the cash graph based on my individual recordings.

RunGood does do this. My graph is now with my hours played, not sessions. Bart

Haven't updated in a while. Hey guys so after my shitty Hustler session and tough Bike session (see hand with Nichole) my results are far from speculator but still a small sample. will be playing a fulls session this weekend. Bart

@Bart I’ve enjoyed the content that’s come out of this challenge so far.

Thanks for posting these results too - helps with perspective. When I run bad, I sometimes start to question if I am still a winning player. I still only have a small sample of ~750 hours so don't feel like I can confidently rely on my hourly. Seeing results like this helps me realize that it happens to everyone and that if it happens to Bart Hanson over 75 hours, it will eventually happen to me even worse, even if I am a winner in the game.

Hey guys I havent updated this in a while. So I played about 5 short sessions of 5-5 in the last few weeks. Definitely not getting the type of volume that I expected. However, I am going away for a couple of weeks in April so I am going to play some full 8 hour sessions at the Hustler on the next two Tuesdays to add to this challenge and get more content for the podcast. Definitely have run bad including a $2500 pot I lost with AJdd vs Ryan Feldman's ATos all-in preflop that I will talk about on the podcast this week. Bart

I still use Excel which I think is more powerful in a number of areas. I have 15+ years so not eager to change. Excel allows me to view/play on phone/home puter and work puter. Poker aps are blocked on work puter.

Just an update now since my 2 sessions at Hustler, which were both at least 7 hours. I realize that I have been doing this wrong. I cant expect to have the same type of results playing 2-3 hour sessions. Ive always said that your hourly goes up as you get deeper in these capped games. Meaning you should play longer sessions. Also, for some reason in my last update I only had 5-5 games from the Bike. Now they are all there. Bart

    Hey Bart,

Could you please look up what's your longest break even stretch historically in terms of hours?

On my phone I probably only have 4300 hours of NL records, but I will check. I will be updating this thread tomorrow with a few more results and I'll try to get you that answer. Does anyone know how to sort that type of information (finding break even stretch) in RunGood? Bart

I added a few sessions to the challenge results, including a nice little win from the Hustler last night. This is still obviously a very small sample.

@maphacks I pulled my NL graph from the past 4300 hours. Just by eying it it looks like I had a break even stretch of 500 or so hours between hours 2500 and 3000 and another one of 500 hours between 3200 and 3700 hours. Because these stretches were pretty close to each other I probably only won $50,000 over say a 1200 hour stretch between 2500 and 3700.. Bart

    @Bart

What winrate do you think is possible in the smaller cap 5/5 games in LA? Commerce, hollywood park and gardens?
